Lawn Installation

It’s an undisputed fact among realtors that the single best thing you can do to improve curb appeal and help sell your home is to have a lush green lawn. As far as landscaping goes, it’s also one of the most affordable.

A good foundation of topsoil is critical to the success of a new lawn installation.

A thin layer of topsoil over sandy fill is not conducive to a healthy, lush lawn. If your lawn burns out in the summer – or if your irrigation system is using a lot of water to keep your lawn green – this may be the cause. When Signature Landscapes installs a new lawn, we use a full 3 to 4 inches of quality topsoil.

Should you choose Hydroseed or Sod?

Besides the cost difference of hydroseeding versus sodding, there are some other factors to consider when deciding which is best for your lawn installation.

  1. Sun exposure. If your yard is shady, it would be best to go with hydroseeding. A sod lawn requires at least four hours of direct sun to thrive; full sun all day is optimal for sod. Hydroseed can be blended for full sun, part sun, or fully shady areas.
  2. Foot traffic. If you are expecting immediate traffic after your new lawn is installed, consider sod as an “instant lawn” that can be walked on immediately.
  3. Water. Either hydroseed or sod can be done at any time of the year, provided it gets enough water- which is the third ingredient for a successful lawn installation.

Irrigation systems ensure a successful lawn installation.

Your best chance to have the best lawn is the first time we install it. A new lawn, whether seed or sod, is vulnerable to drought stress. We always recommend having an irrigation system. It’s just a fact that busy people with active lives simply don’t have time to consistently water their lawn.
